☞ REMEMBER: Tudor at Hamilton Place c. 1922

Out of all the revival styles, Tudor is not really all that common in Harlem but a photo from circa 1922 shows one such building up on Hamilton Place.  The West Harlem building at 138th Street still stands today and is an example of how this classical trend usually reserved for smaller homes has been adapted into a taller building. It's not our favorite style but definitely an interesting one for an apartment complex. Note also the chimney stacks have been removed in the current image.  Photo courtesy NYPL

  1. I wonder, if the chimney stacks are removed does that mean the fireplaces in the apartments are gone too?

  2. Not necessarily but obviously they have been rendered non-working.

  3. Tudor may not be common in Harlem, but Hudson View Gardens in Washington Heights (Pinehurst Ave above 181st) is worth a look.
