☞ REMEMBER: West 125th & 8th Ave circa 1939
An old photo taken of the northeast corner of 125th Street and 8th Avenue (today's FDB) shows the bustling commercial corridor circa 1939 as it looked under the elevated train. Today those train tracks are long gone but the building in the photo still stands and looks as much as it did decades ago. The train tracks have since been dismantled and the only other real difference between the two images are the cars and the stores that where located on the lower floors. Archival photo via NYPL

Wonderful old photo, it must have been very transformative when the elevated tracks came down revealing the sky.
