☞ INTRODUCING: Hamilton Grange Opens
Hamilton Grange had its big opening this past weekend and there was actually a line to get into Alexander Hamilton's house at its new location on the north side of St. Nicholas Park. The event was highlighted with reenactors and musician who were about on the lawn to greet the families that gathered out front. Those looking to get into the house at 141st Street and Convent Avenue had to wait about 20 minutes in line to see what the renovated home looked like. Check out the photos after the jump.
Guests entered at the cellar level of the mansion which would have probably housed the kitchen area but has since been converted into a well appointed museum which details the life of Alexander Hamilton and the history of the grange. The above photos show some of the restored rooms and architectural details within the house which almost appear too new for such an old home. Most of what was available for viewing included a dining area, the main parlor and a study. All of the second floor was corded off at this point so visitors did not have access to the bedrooms of the manor. Hamilton Grange is now open to the public at regular park hours for those who missed the festivities this past weekend.

It was a great event and the NPS did a fine job in restoring the home. I hope the Grange becomes a popular destination. Alexander Hamilton was a fascinating guy.
ReplyDeleteReally great that they got this done. It sure took a while, but I hope it becomes a neighborhood institution.
ReplyDeleteI only hope they can manage to get people uptown. It's astonishing to me how few longtime New Yorkers haven't visited the Hispanic Society Museum or the Morris-Jumel Mansion
