☞ READ: La Fonda Boricua Closes
The New York Daily News today reports that the one of the best Puerto Rican eateries in town has now shuttered because of due back rent. This El Barrio restaurant became an instant hit back in 1996 when CUNY graduate Jorge Ayala purchased a small luncheonette and made it most acclaimed place to get authentic cuisine which even was featured on a Throwdown episode with celebrity chef Bobby Flay. Nevertheless, it now appears that storefront on 106th Street and Lexington has closed in the past few weeks and all the signage has now come down out front. Mr. Ayala has said he intends to open up again in the future but the landlord had no comment on the situation. Read more in the Daily News: LINK
