The famous Watt-Pinkney Mansion had many photos of the exterior taken before it was demolished in the early part of the 20th Century but there are actually a few interior shots floating around. An image taken of the estate at 139th Street and 7th Avenue back in 1910 shows some very decorative soft furnishings with minimally decorated walls. A large mirror adds an illusion of depth to the parlor while a marble fireplace is the main focal point. We had been expecting more decorative wallpaper for this one but it seems that was more popular with the new brownstones of the same time period.

It is so interesting to see how these homes were furnished, not that I am a fan of the overly ornate Victorian style.
