☞ REMEMBER: Riding the Retro Express Subway

We happen to catch the retro 1920s train that was running this weekend from 96th Street to 42nd Street while heading downtown on the 2,3 express line and were instantly transported within a surreal time machine.  This was part of a promotion for the HBO Boardwalk Empire series which has also filmed in Harlem but any movie or photo could not capture the awe and amazement that every rider felt on this surprise trip to the past.  Long gone details such as minature exposed ceiling fans spinning overhead and rattan subways seats made this ride a more memorable one for those who were not around when the train was running up until 1969. For those who missed out, a few vintage trains are stored at the MTA Museum in Brooklyn and visitors are allowed to enter them: LINK

  1. I was also lucky enough to be on this train. I was told that it will run again this coming weekend, Sat & Sun, at 'the same' time. I'm sure that can be found online.
I caught the train at 42nd St and the look on people's faces when it pulled up was priceless - the doors opened and people weren't sure if they should get on or...take pictures. It even had the old advertisements.
