☞ SHOP: Gourmet Pizza Arriving on 145th

The vegan restaurant Raw Soul shuttered in the beginning of this year and it appear that the shop at 348 West 145th Street is about to get another eatery.  A new sign out front has now announced the arrival Italian Gourmet & Pasta Plus and has been up for a couple of weeks according to a tipster.  There is not really a pizza place at this part of town so it should be a welcome addition to the block.  Our only major concern here is that the name of the establishment hopefully is not what is on the sign out front.  Sounds a little clinical at this point.

  1. Actually, there has been a boom of new pizza places in the neighborhood. There's a place on 142nd & FBD whose name escapes me right now. King's on 145th between ACP & Lenox. A new dollar slice join on Lenox & 145 in a former nightclub space. A yet to open place at 142nd & Lenox which, from their new awning, appears to offer halal pizza. And a new pizza place at 137th & Lenox. Kings used to be the only place north of 135th in Central Harlem to get a slice (at least that I knew of) but now we've got lots of options.

  2. Actually there is a decent pizzeria on 145St just west of St. Nick after the beauty salon called New Millenium. Hopefully this one will be better quality.

  3. Central Harlem looks like it's covered in the takeout pizza category. This section of West Harlem/Hamilton Heights could definitely use another addition.

  4. I wouldn't call that place west of St. Nick "decent." Maybe "edible if you're desperate."

The old Vinegar Hill had excellent slices (actually thin crust individual pies).

  6. Mama Tina's is on FDB and 142nd? I think. Their pizza is very good and thay have a lot of pasta and sub options also. Their delivery is sometimes very slow but I would highly recommend their food.

  7. Mama Tina's. That's it! I really liked their pizza but it doesn't reheat well in my oven. of course, pizza is best cold, but sometimes I like to warm it up. Glad to hear that their other food is good. I'll have to give it a shot.

  9. It;s okay. . . not great. Vinegar hill was great.

  10. sorry—if you’re a pizza joint you serve pizza. You don't serve pizza +burgers + wings.

That coupled with the adjective “gourmet” is a big red flag.

  11. Olga's (formerly Paul's) on Broadway and 138th/139th is pretty good...

  12. Yes, Sanou's mum, I agree with you 100%. I walk by there almost everyday on the way to the subway and "gourmet" pizza + burgers + wings sent off alarm bells in my head as well. Also, if you notice they chose to paint over those beautiful newly installed wooden french doors with that ugly lime green paint. That was the next red flag for me. I think they're planning to appeal to the grab-a-bite to take on the BX 19 bus crowd that waits at that spot.

  13. Olga's/Paul's is the BEST. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Hamilton Heights (even though I walk by the pizza place at 145/St. Nick's every time I come home via the ABCD).
