One of the oldest houses in Harlem was the Claremont Inn at Riverside Drive at 124th Street and a photo from 1938 shows how the patio used to look over the new monuments of Morningside Heights. The Inn itself was built in 1775 and would be a famous country getaway until its decline and eventual demise by the 1950s. Apparently a fire broke out a burned down the building and a playground sits on the site today. Read more about the Claremont Inn from our past post: LINK
