☞ READ: More Independent Bookstores Uptown

While big chain bookstores have all neglected any of the blocks above 110th Street for the most part, it appears that the smaller mom and pop chains are starting to flourish according to the Daily News.  East Harlem will be getting another bookstore on East 103rd Street called Casa Azul and Washington Height's Word Up on West 176th Street will extend its temporary lease.  Harlem already has Hue-Man and Sister's Uptown as bookstore venues and East Harlem currently has another shop called Deja Vu which specializes in urban Latino novels.  Read more about uptown's latest small shop trend in the Daily News: LINK.

  2. HBBC, agreed, anything to encourage literacy, these indie book stores may offer events for children. I like Hueman bookstore and the events they present. I always hoped for a Barnes and Nobel on 125th, who knows, we may get one eventually.
