☞ REMEMBER: A Great Day in Harlem on Film
The famous photo taken in 1958 called a Great Day in Harlem was the subject of a documentary from 1995 and the above clip shows some of the films sentimental moments. Most notable is the story of how the neighborhood kids on East 126th Street wanted to sit by the legendary Count Basie and ended up being in the famous photo by Art Kane. Check out our past post for an update on how this East Harlem block looks today: LINK

The man telling the first story in this clip is my mentor, friend and legendary creative director, Steve Frankfurt. He was an assistant on this photo shoot when he was a novice art director working at his first agency job. Nice gig.
