☞ REMEMBER: Mount Morris Park Gates c. 1894
There currently are cast iron gates at the south end of Marcus Garvey Park today but an old photo shows what this corner of the park looked like over a century ago. Originally the park was named Mount Morris Park back in the day and the 118th 120th Street entrance appears to have had just a basic, low wooden or stone construction with balustrade details back in 1894. Today the taller gates are made of cast iron and Bespoke readers have clued in on the origins of the mysterious initials found there within: LINK.

The entrance is on 120th Street but that is one great big honkin’ boulder there on 118.
ReplyDeleteThat boulder was only just recently removed when they developed the new high rise on that lot. They had to do A LOT of blasting.
ReplyDeletethe high rise is on the next block uptown.
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine trying to remove those rocks. . .
