☞ INTRODUCING: Joshua Johnson of Harlem
The Times covered the inspirational story of one Harlem tap dancer who works the subways on the weekends to help pay off for going to college and ended up on a national television show. Joshua Johnson learned tap at a local performance high school and eventually got accepted to Penn State but was not able to pay for his college education. Joshua has thus been traveling 5 hours back to NYC every weekend to make extra money on the subway for school and also to help out his mother who lives in a shelter. Ellen DeGeneres recently heard about the student's story and presented a $35,000 scholarship via Chegg on her television show. Read more in the Times: LINK

What an amazing story! I've never had the pleasure of seeing him dance but I will certainly dig deep if and when I do. I couldn't help but wonder, though, why it is that such a talented and intelligent young man has to go to such lengths to get money for college. Where are all these community activists and leaders when you need them!?! Seems to me Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, Inez Dickens, et al. should be spending their time helping people like this rather than complaining about restaurants.
