☞ REVIVE: Landmark Church Breaks Ground
The Convent Avenue Baptist Church in the Hamilton Heights historic district broke ground on April 1st for a controversial new addition to the landmark neighborhood. A building with an elevator shaft addition was barely approved by the local community board last year and a Bespoke reader sent in the lower photo showing the excavation equipment arriving on the site just south of West 145th Street. All plans have been approved by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission to proceed but many neighbors wonder if the new addition is really all that contextual.
