☞ REMEMBER: Sharing a Stage Uptown
The above is a great video piece on the Jewish community of entertainers in Harlem during the early part of the 20th century. Harlem was then divided into two communities with the Jewish neighborhood located between 110th and 125th Street and the African American neighborhood that emerged above 125th Street to the far reaches of 155th. Those two communities joined together to make a living off of the music scene of the era which the above documentary explains. The exhibit showcased is currently up at Settepani on Lenox Avenue.
