Harlem Bespoke:  Live music lovers can check out the jazz vibes at Lucille's on Macomb Place by 150th Street every Thursday evening starting at 8:00PM with dinner or drink service.  The charming corner space in Central Harlem has a very current 70's mood to it which doubles as a cozy coffee spot during the day but also makes for a lovely evening out when cocktails are served up at the bar.

REMEMBER: THE PALM CAFE REVISITED

Harlem Bespoke: We received a wonderful response to our original Palm Cafe post a few years ago and thought it would something the Bespoke audience could appreciate.  The above postcard is from around 1950:

Thanks for reviving old memories the the famous "Palm Cafe" where I worked as a waitress in the early sixties. Having said that, please be advised that the photographs do not reflect the dining room in its state of elegance. All tables were covered with white cloths and dressed with cloth dinner napkins. I have a photograph of the entire staff (including me) sitting at the rear of the dining room. One day, I will surprise you by sharing it. I remember waiting on Langston Hughes, Sidney Poitier and Sam Cook. In fact, almost everyone who appeared at the Apollo Theater visited the Palm Cafe. The owner was Ralph Bastone. His son Freddie Bastone, owned the famous "Top Club" at St. Nicholas and 125th Sts.

The Schomburg Center’s annual Women's Jazz Festival (WJF) is celebrating 31 years of centering Black women in the field of jazz. The Women’s Jazz Festival was founded in 1992 by then Harlem resident and jazz vocalist, Melba Joyce. Year after year, the festival and its curators have brought together musicians, dancers and a melding of musical genres to deliver an exciting series of concerts featuring some of the best-known and emerging talent by women in jazz today.
