☞ READ: A 50 Million Lenox Lounge Lawsuit
The building owner of the storefront that formerly housed the iconic Lenox Lounge is now suing the lounge's owner for $50 million according to the Daily News: LINK. As folks know by now, the owner of Lenox Lounge is moving the establishment a couple of blocks north after a rent dispute with the landlord who now claims that the exterior and interior of the building is part of his property. Lawyers on both sides are working the details out now so the future is still unclear on what will happen at either locations. Restauranteur Richard Notar plans to open a new jazz joint at the former spot but will it have the original details restored or will everything be replicated?

I just hope this doesn't delay the opening of the new place.
ReplyDeleteFor the sake of Harlem history, I would like to see the Lenox Lounge restored to its original location, and whoever operates it, let it be someone who can make it work in the new Harlem, regardless of their color.
ReplyDeleteI hope the judge takes into consideration preserving Harlem’s history.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Westsider.
ReplyDeleteThis lawsuit is baseless. The owner raised the rent and the tenant was forced to vacate the premises. If a new tenant is taking the place over then the owner doesn't own the interior or exterior fixtures. So what was he planning to do with them if the Lenox Lounge owners were moving out? Nothing since he doesn't own the copyright to the name.
ReplyDeleteThe judge won't take into consideration the preservation of Harlem's history because it's about the law of possession not sentiment.
