Hamilton Heights has one of largest landmark districts in Harlem but the sleepy enclave has only recently started to attract trendy businesses. Based on the Community Board map, this West Harlem neighborhood stretches from 135th Street to 155th Street with Jackie Robinson and St. Nicholas Park as the eastern edge. The most sought out housing stock can be found along Convent Avenue just below and above 145th Street since this historic district has been preserved the most over the decades. Sugar Hill located just north of 145th Street on St. Nicholas Avenue also has some great architecture. Express trains provide access to midtown in about 15 minutes which many take since there is not too much happening in the area quite yet.
In the past year, a couple of notable businesses have appeared on the scene and more will arrive soon. Harlem Public opened up on Broadway at 149th Street and the pub has been a local favorite even for Sunday brunch. The neighboring Chipped Cup coffeehouse has also been well received and another major Harlem cafe will open up soon on 145th Street which is one of the main commercial hub of the area. Larger renovated landmark houses with original details mixed with high end new finishes have been marketed for over the $3 million mark but these prices match those of houses in South Harlem which have better local amenities surrounding them: LINK

ReplyDeleteActually I time the subway ride. From 145th Street platform to 59th street platform many times only takes 10 mins. Depends if you have a decent subway driver who takes advantage of the express line like it is meant to be. :)
