☞ BESPOKE: Crossing Lenox and 125th Street
The booming commercial heart of Harlem has become Lenox and 125th Street and we are constantly entertained with people watching when getting to this central hub of uptown's iconic neighborhood. As we mentioned the other week, Chef Marcus Samuelsson can often be seen walking down the street from the Red Rooster restaurant with an entourage and sporting some of the current men's fashion of the season: LINK
As can be seen behind Chef Samuelsson at the top photo, a performance artists often is set up in the center median balancing various fruits on his head while dressed in overalls on any given day. Depending on the weather, the uniform is apparently classically long or a trendy shorter length when it gets warmer out.
Then there is the local trainer who is basically Harlem's equivalent of the Naked Cowboy in Times Square since he is often shirtless but is promoting his fitness regime rather than commercial fame. Harlem is definitely one of the last interesting neighborhoods left in Manhattan and the new era of the neighborhood should only make it more culturally rich and diverse going foreword.

Don’t forget handstand man who is often seen on Lenox doing what looks like tai chi and of course handstands. Love the observation about Harlem’s naked cowboy, so true.
ReplyDeleteAll Manhattan neighborhoods have their cast of characters but a positive thing that sets Harlem apart is it is much more engaging and so somehow seems more real, just my opinion. Great story.
