☞ SHOP: Retail Ready in Hamilton Heights
Some of the major old storefronts in Hamilton Heights off of Broadway have been going some major renovations in hopes of attracting better retail tenants. The group of shops shown in the above photo had plywood out front for several months and we recently notice the new look shops when passing by on the weekend. These ground floor spaces really set the mood for the block and the said building suddenly looked more like the stock usually found on the upper west side. With the success of Harlem Public just up the block and new Columbia housing being constructed nearby, this section of West Harlem will be the next area to look out for in the future.

Hopefully it won't be pawn shops, dollar stores or cell phone stores going into these storefronts...
ReplyDeleteIf by Columbia housing you mean the building going up on 148th street. It's not Columbia housing as in staff or student housing. It is a building to provide units for some of the residents displaced from the Manhattanville development.

The problem with a lot of the retail spaces available in Hamilton Heights currently is that they are asking Upper West Side rents with a fraction of the foot traffic.
