☞ BESPOKE: Sundae Sermon Men's Fashion Watch
Sundae Sermon was a huge success as usual this past Sunday over at St. Nicholas Park and 135th Street but we mainly go to this event for all the people watching. This dance-picnic festival brings out everyone in Harlem and folks of all ages brought their best summer looks along for the season's first major community gathering.
Notable Harlem historian Michael Henry Adams is always a standout with his summer boater hats and classic suits while the younger men at the event mixed things up in a more contemporary fashion. Some of the popular summer looks all involved prints or patterns on all types of silhouettes. Tanks and shorts used to be more on the basic side but now young men tend to gravitate towards classic stripe or color block variations. Tee shirts are not just for logos anymore and the fully printed versions (patterned on front, back and sleeves) have become popular this season.
Accessories all come into play also when the temperature heats up. To slightly dress up shorter length silhouettes, many men tend to now wear hats to add another layer to an overall look. Summer hats that have shorter brims and are made of straw are popular this season along with updated, printed baseball caps that have been patterned on all panels. With all that said, straightforward athletic looks that include track pants and tank tops will always remain a classic uptown.
As for the ladies, summer is still the time to wear fun dresses. Patterns also now come into play and we mostly noticed that silhouettes with skinny strap variations are trending at the moment.
