☞ REVIVE: A New Corn Exchange Building
The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission apparently has approved the final plans for the reconstruction of the landmark Corn Exchange Building over at 81 East 125th Street. As most folks know by now, the majestic building collapsed a few years back after a former owner failed to restore it properly and a new developer stepped in to reconstruct the landmark. Only the lower two floors now remain and the Landmarks Commission wanted another draft of the original plan that would have the oriel windows more dimensional and constructed out of the original metal along with a few other minor changes.
Details such as the slate tile and top tier cornice will be made of durable modern materials but overall the building will be restored to much of its original glory to be used as commercial and office space. Read more details in this City Land article from October: LINK

This is a majestic old building and I'm happy if Dave Danois will be involved in revitalizing it!
ReplyDeleteGreat news, it will be so good to see this fabulous building rise again on 125th street. I have to say, the rendering looks a little scary, like the Adams family home, but I'm sure the final building will look great.
ReplyDeleteStunning !! It will be a WONDERFUL rebirth !!!
