The Commercial Observer reports that a wide lot over at West 126th Street just west of Morningside Avenue was just sold for $6.6 million and just might be West Harlem's first hotel. What the piece does not include is the fact that the abandoned Tastee Cake Factory is directly across the street on the south side of this block and that major development will break ground sometimes this year if all goes according to plan.
Columbia's new Manhattanville campus is also under construction just a couple of blocks west while the area restauranteur Danny Meyers is looking at on 135th Street and ACP/7th Avenue is nowhere near this neighborhood which is on the outskirts of Manhattanville's industrial district. Most of the immediate block consists of low level garages or old factory buildings so this could become a version of the meet packing district if done right.
