Chapati House will open today according to a tip received. This new Indian restaurant just 2 blocks south of 125th on Broadway looks more like a takeout business with informal seating for those who want to eat in quickly but the design is the main thing that we find innovative for area. The interior has industrial hanging lights, a quilted stainless steel kitchen, brightly colored enameled stools and Moroccan tile floors. Out front, the classic industrial lamps stand out and the signage is simply printed on a surface that is not back lit.
This new eatery looks a lot more sophisticated that the generic bodegas or Chinese takeout shops in the area so we expect it to fare well. With that said, this is the 3rd Indian establishment to arrive in Harlem this year and more is to come just further north: LINK
Looks like the kind of thing you see up and down the UWS. Man, Morningside Heights as distinct from the UWS is long gone. And Manhattanville/Hamilton Heights is the new Morningside Heights. Not complaining, but it's happening.
ReplyDeleteChapathi House is owned by the same gentlemen who owns Roti Roll on 109th & Amsterdam. Haven't tried Chapathi House yet but Roti Roll is good Indian fast food and the owner is a nice guy.
ReplyDeleteI looked for the restaurant for 20 minutes tonight. Are you sure it's on Broadway a couple blocks south of 125th?
ReplyDeleteBetween Lasalle and Tiemann. Roughly 124th street on Broadway.
