NEW HARLEM EATERY NUMBER 5: BIER INTERNATIONAL

Between the still lingering ill-perception of excessive crime and somewhat over-priced commercial retail demands, Harlem's dining scene has had its ups and downs over the years. With that in mind, we thought it would be appropriate to go over the newish establishment that were pioneers not so long ago and who have since helped change the dining scene in Harlem.

BIER INTERNATIONAL, 2099 FREDERICK DOUGLASS BOULEVARD AT 113TH STREET
Bier International opened on 8th Avenue back in 2010 and really introduced European style fare to the FDB corridor.  Great beer on draft as well as German offerings such as large soft pretzels served with hot mustard or Weiner and Kraut automatically became a hit.  This modest sized contemporary beer garden also made way for the larger Harlem Tavern a couple of blocks north which is a more commercial sports bar variation with a massive outdoor space.  More European establishment would soon arrive in the area with Cedric and Lido opening up in the following years.
