MEET: UPTOWN LGBT SOCIALS THIS WEEK

We talked to one of the local restaurant owners recently about how the LGBT population has grown uptown and that it is probably the right time for gay bars to finally start reappearing again in Harlem proper.  Nothing has been officially confirmed but we expect to have some news by the year's end.  In the meantime, there are a few notable LGBT socials for this week:

Thursday, May 22nd, 7:00PM, Hamilton Lodge at Red Room Lounge, 1 Bennett Avenue, north of 181st Street. Hamilton Lodge is a weekly LGBT gathering with a name that celebrates uptown's ballroom past but is is actually in Hudson Heights. This new gathering has mostly been at the Red Room Lounge and folks living a little further north can find out more weekly via Facebook: LINK

Thursday, May 22nd 9:00PM, WOOFi at Jado Sushi, 2118 FDB/8th Avenue, between 114th and 115th Street. Guest DJs, $5 Beers, well drinks for $6, and 2 -for-1 deals until 10:00PM might make this new LGBT monthly mixer the affordable choice for South Harlem: LINK

Friday, May 23rd, starting 7:00PM,  Harlem Stage’s Uptown Nights: COUNTERCULTURE A LGBTQ Night of Live Music and a Dance Party at the Gatehouse, 150 Convent Avenue at 135th Street, Tickets $20 for a night including a Mixer at 7:00PM, Performances at 7:30PM and a dance party starting 9:30PM.  Counterculture is part of Harlem Stage’s “Uptown Nights” series that recalls the time when Harlem served as the location for adventurous music and arts lovers to see and hear cutting-edge artists: LINK
