CELEBRATE: DIVERSITY AT HARLEM PRIDE 2014
Harlem Pride 2014 at Jackie Robinson Park was another great success this year and really showed how diverse uptown really is. The family-friendly event is more laid-back than the main Pride Parade that happens the following day downtown and local politicians alway make an appearance in support of Harlem's LGBT community. Live entertainment was offered up at the bandshell of the park throughout the afternoon which included voguing but our favorite moment was when the families got on stage to dance to We are Family. Too often the media focuses on a small, vocal group that makes it appear that the community does not accept diversity but events like Harlem Pride prove that the LGBT community and its family have a place uptown also.
