ARCHITECTURE: CONTEXTUAL ADDITIONS ON 127TH
There are some rather perplexing developers who have modified the classic Harlem brownstone with non-contextual facade finishes for the sake of adding on levels but at least one new renovation on 127th street has gone back to the basics. Most of the 4-story buildings on the block are modest homes so thus adding two floors during a gut renovation makes sense for more financial impact. The above photo shows that this can be done by replicating the lower floors, placing back the original cornice and then building a set-back penthouse at top. This is just a great taste level that is embracing the roots of the block and not as confusing as some of the other updates nearby: LINK
