INTRODUCING: MINT AND MAUVE ON FIFTH AVENUE

A brownstone renovation on Fifth Avenue just above Marcus Garvey Park finished up in the past year and has chosen a very colorful facade aesthetic.  Walking by the block just below 125th Street this past week, we noticed that mauve and pink color combo with a mint green cornice has been selected for this particular painted lady.  Cast Iron buildings and old wood frame victorian homes often had striking colors painted on them but brownstones in general stayed mostly brown.

While the colors of the facade strives for a period look, the doorway is another story.  Note the building next door has the original wood intact at the entrance and this is apparently enough security for Harlem today.  Our building manager once tried to change our historic wooden doors to modern metal because of security concerns but the board chose to stick to the classic which has been around over a century now.

  1. I do like contrasting window details, but prefer the building to the right.

  2. In it's defense, it does have nice door lanterns.

  3. Those doors make it look like a drug treatment clinic.
