You may have read in the past weeks that the Museum of Modern Art recently discovered silent film footage from 1913 of the African American performer and Harlem resident Bert Williams, whose home still stands at 2309 7th Avenue. MoMA plans an exhibition from that footage in November, however, images of Bert Williams and his performing partner George Walker are old hat to those of you who have followed the talks, exhibitions and walking tours of Harlem historian and Columbia University Community Fellow, John Reddick.
This weekend Mr. Reddick's knowledge and collection will be available in abundance!
On Saturday Oct 11th, at 11:00am you'll be able to catch him give a FREE lecture at the APOLLO Theater, in celebration of that theater building's 100th year and the Apollo's 80th anniversary as part of Open House New York. No reservation required for this event: LINK
On Sunday, October 12th, from 12:00noon until 7:00pm Mr. Reddick and his John Reddick Poster & Memorabilia Collection will be featured at the Sugar Hill Market located at Harlem's Maison de Arts, 259 West 132nd Street: LINK
I'm looking forward to this lecture, its great to have this opportunity & I hope the High School students from Harlem get a chance to go as well. One of my neighbors is a History Teacher at a local JHS and I've told her about it.
