ARCHITECTURE: DECORATIVE FINIAL ON STRIVERS ROW
After having past the carriage gates of Strivers Row all of these years, we just assumed that the stone portions were just perfunctory without much decorative elements. On a past stroll, a distinct design element caught our eye for the first time at the 139th Street section of the landmark district. There apparently had been decorative finials capping off all of the gates at one point and one such feature still remains at this particular location. This lone survivor from a century ago has all of the carved detailing one would expect of the time period and it is unfortunate that the remainder of the gates have lost these glorious crowns. With that said, at least one remains just in case there comes a day someone tries to restore the others.

technically in a repair they would have to be restored to the original look, as per Landmarks law.......
