Who can guess the vantage of this triangular block with two views of an elevated subway line taken in 1929?  All of the structures in the foreground do not exist today and even one of the streets have been partially eliminated but the rest is still intact.

ANSWER: This is view looking west towards Broadway on 125th Street.  The arched viaduct is the 1 train station to the right and to the left was the original extension of Tiemann Place which disappeared when housing projects arrived in the area mid century.  There are still shops at the right side today but those structures have no relationship to the original buildings in the area that once stood in the early part of the 20th century.

  3. Under the Manhattan Valley No 1 train viaduct, looking east along 125th street with the Hudson River behind the photographers position. On the far right just out of frame is - currently - a drive-through McDonald's. To the left of the frame is uptown.

  4. St. Clair, not La Salle. Gas station was recently in the triangular-shaped lot in foreground.
