ARCHITECTURE: ENCLAVE AT THE CATHEDRAL

The two new towers by St. John the Divine at 400 West 113th Street will now be called Enclave at the Cathedral and the 15-story buildings just topped off.  This corner of Amsterdam Avenue will eventually have 430 new apartment units altogether when things finish up by the end of year and we assume that these will all be rentals based on that other development that had been approved on the church's land in the past.

  1. I am pretty certain they are to be rentals. Like the Avalon there will also be a percentage of affordable units (which will no doubt face the cathedral at a low level rather than the park or even offer a glimpse of the river). If they follow the same standard for affordable units as their other building, it is truly affordable and not affordable in the sense that you can make 140% of the area median income to qualify. A friend was able to move into the Avalon from NYCHA.

  4. I don't care if the apartments are given rent free.

This is a desecration of a world landmark.

All those involved should be ashamed of themselves.

  5. I am speechless. Desecration is right. NYC being auctioned off one piece at a time.
