ARCHITECTURE: CONSTRUCTION AT THE VIADUCT
There appears to be a floating platform currently being constructed over by the 125th Street Viaduct on the far west side. We have been noticing the construction crew floating suspension wires from the top of the Manhattanville landmark in the past week and now corrugated sheet metal have been put in place. This section of Harlem's old industrial district is currently going through a pedestrian friendly makeover but we are not sure what this suspended level is all about. Any tips out there?

Hopefully it's something more marvelous than that huge H. I liked the idea but that H looked unappealing, lol
ReplyDeleteI would guess there is most likely upkeep/maintenance being performed on some element of the existing viaduct structure. You'll often see this sort of corrugated suspended deck used as surface to both stage the work and protect the area below it.
ReplyDeleteYes, painting and maintenance are my guess.
ReplyDeleteIt's typical that DOT floats a barrier between bridge work and the possibility of paint or debris hitting vehicles or pedestrians below.
