REMEMBER: THE SUBWAY CORNER CIRCA 1939
Who can guess the location of this subway entrance from a photo taken around 1939? The station is still there but the kiosk has long been dismantled. Actually all of the buildings in this image still stand today. An updated photo will be posted later on in the day.
ANSWER: Corner of 116th and Lenox which was the former Conway storefront. From the original photo, on can see this location was once a supermarket which would actually have worked in modern times at this address. Archival image courtesy NYPL

ReplyDeleteThat's the corner of W 116th St & Lenox Ave, looking northwest at the building which until recently contained a Conway store. The "Foremost Food" supermarket looks much nicer.
