We received photos to our inbox with a great view of 721 St. Nicholas Avenue by 146th Street which is now finally going through the planned restoration. This landmark Sugar Hill building had developers planning on adding modern additions to the rooftop but the city's Landmark Commission voted against the penthouse add-ons both time. From DOB paperwork filed earlier on in the year, the 8 unit townhouse will now be converted into 4 apartments but we are not sure if these will become condos.
Another question posed was weather a prewar apartment building just a couple of doors south was within the landmark district and the answer is yes. Any of the older buildings starting at West 145th Street on St. Nicholas up until 149th Street is part of the official historic district extension.
I walk by there almost daily, I am looking forward to seeing some progress.
ReplyDeleteAny word on the empty store fronts on that street, it seems like a prime area, I mean come on, the sugar hill cafe hit it big around here, I would love to see some boutique or eatery pop up.
That's one Beautiful building
ReplyDeleteThe owners also own 719 St. Nicholas. 721 is going to become condos with a restaurant/bar in the commercial space
ReplyDeleteword on the street is that a coffee shop is going into 719 and a bar/restaurant in an old speakeasy style is going into 721. expect them both in 2016
ReplyDeleteAmazing, there are so many empty spaces on St Nic just north of 145th. It'd be great to have some of that great energy that is going on Broadway
ReplyDeleteIts going to be a good year to be in Hamilton Heights, so exciting!!
