Who can guess the location of this subway corner in Harlem taken circa 1941? A subway kiosk is one of the biggest clues here and usually indicates a major cross street at avenue. Another historic landmark is a famous hotel for African Americans during the years of the Renaissance which still stands today. Those who know their Harlem history should easily guess this one.
ANSWER: This is a view from Lenox Avenue looking west at 145th Street. Hotel Olga can still be seen at the left side of the photo and was the main lodging for African Americans visiting Harlem until the early 30s. Archival image courtesy NYPL
