REMEMBER: THE ACE GARAGE CIRCA 1929
Who can guess the location of this hilly vantage point taken circa 1929? One of the major clues is the Ace Garage which can be seen on the left side and is part of a complex that is still part of the neighborhood. The other notable historic landmark is the curved barrel tower of the large townhouse at the center of the photo which still stands today. Archival photo courtesy the Museum of the City of New York
ANSWER: This is definitely the north view of St. Nicholas Avenue looking from 144th Street. Another painted sign still is visible on the building to the left and the barrel tower townhouse is currently under scaffolding for renovations.

ReplyDelete145th and St Nick. Although it's hard to recognize without all the cop cars parked on the sidewalk and bus stop.
