DEMOLITION: THE STABLE HOUSE ON 122ND
The former stable house at 215 West 122nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenue is currently meeting its demise even though neighbors have been trying to save the historic structure. A developer purchased the building that had also had been used as a church but has since been abandoned for some time. Now it looks like a 6-story apartment building will be put in its place based on DOB permits approved just last week. A Rest In Peace sign has been placed out front and that is all pretty much that can be done unless more landmarking in the neighborhood comes about one way or another.

Why can't we build behind and up? Preserve existing frontages to take advantage of existing architectural features but still be financially viable with the increased square footage? A number of years ago I saw this type of redevelopement in the previously forlorn districts of D.C. (near the spy museum) Why does the baby have to be thrown out with the bathwater???
