ARCHITECTURE: LANDMARK STATUS FOR ST. JOSEPH

St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church on 125th Street by Morningside Avenue is reportedly one of the oldest existing house of worship in Harlem and now has received landmark status.  St. Paul in East Harlem also received the honor this month and the two 19th century buildings will be protected from the wrecking ball in the years to come.  It appears that smaller religious institution with historic buildings tend to want landmark designation but those that own a bit of land or a substantial size property would rather have the option to sell to developers in the future.   More details on the two churches can be found on Curbed: LINK
