REMEMBER: A TRAIN VIEW CIRCA 1945


Who can guess the vantage point of this submerged train track photo taken circa 1945?  One can see in the distance that the buildings dip down a bit along the avenue on either side but much of the architecture shown on the right side does not exist today.

ANSWER:  West 122nd Street looking north at the 1 train line on Broadway.  Morningside Gardens and public housing took over much of the east side of the avenue once the mid century rolled.  Columbia University's new campus is just down the hill and this section of Manhattanville will surely see a lot of changes in the next decade.  Archival image courtesy NYPL
