INTRODUCING: JCC AT FORMER HARLEM GARAGE
The former Harlem Garage shuttered over on 118th Street will now become a Jewish Community Center which brings the neighborhood's history full circle. The last uptown Jewish Y closed about a century ago but now the northern blocks of Manhattan have been attracting a diverse range of families. Harlem was one of the largest Jewish neighborhoods in the early part of the 1900s with a population of over 150,000 all together. An article recently published in The Jewish Week mentions that the total might be as high as 10,000 these days and the JCC would be bringing a cultural center back to Harlem after all of these years: LINK
