BESPOKE: MT. OLIVET BAPTIST CHURCH IN LUKE CAGE
One of the pivotal scenes in Marvel's Luke Cage on Netflix is set in a grand church and anyone who lives in the Mt. Morris Park Historic District might recognize the location. Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on the corner of 120th and Lenox was built in 1907 as Temple Israel when the neighborhood was mostly Jewish. Major demographic shifts in the neighborhood by the early 1920s would eventually have the building sold to a christian organization and eventually converted to an alternate house of worship. Today the iconic baptist church still stands in all of its glory and the original interiors are fully intact as can be seen int the film clips shown above.
