EAT: BRUNCH AT MAXWELL'S IN HARLEM
We dropped by Maxwell's uptown location on Fifth Avenue by 111th Street to check out the weekend brunch at the eatery that just opened last year. This classic pub has the requisite warm wood finishes and the hearty offerings have made it a favorite destination for locals but how does the afternoon service hold up?
Eggs Benedict along with a healthier Caesar Salad were the order of the day and hit the spot before heading out to the Conservatory Garden in Central Park. The eggs were pretty solid but the hash brown turned out to be new potatoes molded and fried up in a pan which were not as crispy as expected . The real surprise was the Caesar ordered with the dressing on the side along with a rather substantial piece of salmon served up crispy on the outside and medium within. When the dishes are this straightforward, the finer details make it a success and Maxwell's does a pretty good job preparing their proteins.
