INTRODUCING: PUBLIC ART IN MANHATTANVILLE
Harlem Bespoke: Renovations over in Manhattanville just north of 125th Street around 12th Avenue are going strong these days and we noticed more cobble stone detailing on a past visit. The industrial area had stone streets similar to downtown's meatpacking district but the city had them all removed in the past few years. Luckily someone in city planning decided that this historic detail was still important and now they are being placed along the wide medians under the viaduct.
Some public art is also currently being installed with engravings of old street names from the neighborhood and it all reminds us of the copper-colored wall over at Frederick Douglass Circle. Big changes are coming about now since the $7 billion Columbia campus is currently under construction and we expect the area to finally transform into a destination hub in the next couple of years.
