Harlem Bespoke: The answer to last week's history photo is The Coliseum Theatre at the corner of 181st and Broadway but what will eventually happen to the historic spot? There were a few articles published back in 2015 that confirmed that the owners wanted to sell the site to developers with a proposal that included designs for a new glass shopping center to take its place. Manhattan's longest running cinema had been operating from the 1920s until 2011 and is considered the third largest movie emporium of its kind when it was built almost a century ago.
We checked out DOB files online and no demolition permits or plans have been posted at this point in time. Other than that, there does not appear to be a lot of information on what's going on currently with the aforementioned development plans.
