ART: ROB PRUITT QUILTS AT GAVIN BROWN 2018

Harlem Bespoke:  We were able to drop by to see the Rob Pruitt exhibit featuring the artist's contemporary take on the American quilt before it closed this past weekend at Gavin Brown galleries on West 127th Street in Manhattanville.  These extraordinary canvases used mixed-media to evoke more familiar quilt patterns but translate more into conceptual work rather than a literal iteration.  As can be seen in the last photo, different American currencies had been used for one of the quilt designs which provide an almost mosaic effect when examined more closely. We also especially love the 4th floor gallery space in the former malt building of the old brewery which has massive skylights and exposed bricks which make or a vibrant contrast to the modern works showcased within.  Those who miss this show should look out for future Bespoke post for upcoming exhibits or go the Gavin Brown site to get details on fall calendar:  LINK
