EAT: AHIMI SUSHI AT WHOLE FOODS
Harlem Bespoke: There is a new vegan sushi in town and we had to try out the vegetarian tuna that has been making waves this year. Whole Foods on Lenox and 125th Street serves up all of the regular fare at their takeout sushi bar but also has the remarkable Ahimi faux fish which is entirely made from tomatoes. A chef had invented the raw toro substitute which has the texture of the real deal and also a savoriness that is also pretty similar.
We are not too big of a fan of fake meat and had been wary of this seafood alternative but have to admit it was really good! The nigiri and avocado maki roll were all fresh in flavor and probably would fool many out there if they did not know that Ahimi was the main ingredient. There usually are a couple of prepared Ahimi sushi offerings ready at the sushi counter on the first floor so those interested should definitely stop by and try it out.
