Harlem Bespoke: We walked by 109 Lenox yesterday to check out Chef Joseph Johnson's new eatery called FieldTrip and noticed that most of the scaffolding that had been obscuring the storefront has gone away. The building at the corner of 115th Street was going under some major renovations and that has finally been finished. So what about FieldTrip? We looked inside the plywood and everything is basically still in the gutted phase with exposed walls at this point in time.
With that said, Chef JJ did preview some of the menu at the U.S. Open last August and guests were treated to the various grain bowls which featured Carolina Gold Rice, crispy coconut rice or black pineapple rice paired with proteins such as jerk BBQ chicken thighs, Piri Piri Salmon and grilled shrimp. Those who are familiar with the restaurants in the neighborhood know that Chef Joseph Johnson put The Cecil on the New York destination dining map a few years back and is considered one of the best culinary artisans in the city. FieldTrip promises to be a more democratic iteration of fine dining and will be priced on the more affordable side when the storefront open later on this year.
