READ: THE EAST HARLEM HISTORIC DISTRICT
Harlem Bespoke: East Harlem's brownstones and prewar tenements could finally have a historic district designation if the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has any say on the subject matter. A recent article in 6SQFT mentions that Harlem's century-old architecture on the east side located around 116th Street and also Pleasant Avenue are waiting for approval on a state level which will ideally garner an eventual National Register of Historic Places status. This would be short of official New York City landmark protection if all comes about for 820 building under review but could eventually start that important process if the designation goes through.
