LOTTERY: PS109 AFFORDABLE RENTALS

HarlemBespoke: News has it that 400 positions are available for the wait list at the adaptive reuse, affordable rental building that previously was P.S. 109 in East Harlem.  This is one of the public school spaces designed in the late 1800s by Charles B.J. Snyder to evoke grand European architecture but had been abandoned for over a decade until renovations started up by an artists housing activist organization called ArtSpace.  A deadline of April 11th, 2019 has been set so those in creative fields who are interested should start applying now.
There are 89 units ranging from studios starting at $731 a month, one bedrooms at $1,039 a month and two bedrooms going for $1,348 a month for those making around $22K-$63K a year.  Our photos reveal a pristine, restored chateau but most of the block around the building has been demolished at this location on East 99th Street by 3rd Avenue and less decorative public housing makes up the rest of the architecture in the immediate vicinity.   Check out the NYC housing site for the full breakdown of requirements and how to apply: LINK

  1. What a great continuation of CBJ Snyder's legacy and his gift to New Yorkers of all backgrounds. This time the Artscape artists and the surrounding community are the benefactors! Many years ago, CBJ and his artistic team led the design and build effort for New York City schools between the years of 1892 and 1923. Many are still being utilized as schools to this day!
